We being inspired by the Spirit of Jesus adopt the name DEEN BANDHU SAMAJ for our Congregation. We choose this name because;
(i) It expresses the original inspiration from Jesus, whom we try to imitate imbibing his spirit. He was always in compassion with the hungry and the suffering, the poor and the oppressed, the ignorant and the sinful (Lk.4:18-19).
(ii) Jesus had a very special love and concern for the poor and he was rightly called the friend of the poor- Deen Bandhu. Hence our community is called Deen Bandhu Samaj which means community of the friends of the poor.
(iii) “Bastar, where the Divine Providence directed us to start our community, is a place of poor people, a backward area with a weak section of mankind. Hence if we are not their friends we have no friends.” (Bishop Paulinus)
The pioneer members of the congregation with their profound love for Jesus and His people have put a strong foundation in blending the contemplation and the service of humanity.
The congregation has at present 23 houses in different parts of the country, in which 16 houses are in the diocese of Jagdalpur, one each in Balaghat( Nagpur Diocese), Raipur ( Hosur Diocese), Two each in Kerela ( Pala and Ernakulam) and Balasore(Odisha). By the special blessings of God we could start two communities in Italy, two communities in Germany and one in America. The members are the asset of the congregation. We have 140 sisters involved in different apostolate in the Eparchy and in other dioceses. We have 23 candidates under formation also.
Some of the fields of our apostolate are evangelization, catechetics, family apostolate, formal and non-formal education, boarding houses, health care, care of the handicapped and mentally challenged orphans, grihini schools, prison ministry, village development programmes, communication media and training schemes.
